Mercedes announced $1 billion investment in new charging network in North America


Mercedes Benz took advantage of the CES 2023 to announce a global cargo network that will arrive first in North America. This will begin to be seen in the United States and Canada starting this year.

Then it will reach the Old Continent, China and other important automobile markets. The objective is have a complete network ready before the end of the year.

mercedes partners with MN8 Energy to make this project a reality. The investment will be 50:50 and will be over a billion euros ($1.05 billion at current exchange rates) to build the North American grid over the next seven years. In 2027 there should be 400 centers what translates into 2500 EV chargers.

The German firm will give priority to charging centers in cities and urban population centers. The Specific locations will be close to brand retail destinations, restaurants, and dealerships. These sites will have between 4 and 12 chargers.

The hubs will have chargers 350 kilowatts Y load-load management for each car to reach its maximum. Plus, it can be plugged in from either side of a model to make things easier for drivers.


Of course, Mercedes customers will have preferential access to shippers, although other electric vehicles will be able to use them.

Mercedes-Benz Electric Intelligence it will be able to adjust routing planning based on a vehicle’s destination and drive it to one of these chargers. According to the manufacturer, the system will know the available capacity of a center and will give the driver immediate access to the charging point without waiting.

Mercedes drivers will not have to perform manual authentication. Payment for the service will be made through Mercedes Me Charge.
