The 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe prototype has been spied during winter testing in Europe for the first time in heavy camouflage. The upcoming electric Genesis is expected to expand the South Korean manufacturer’s lineup of SUVs. In addition, it is expected to compete with bmw x6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe.
2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe spotted outside of Korea
While it’s still covered in a thick layer of protection that tries to hide it, there’s only enough of the vehicle left exposed to see the roofline slope downward at the rear. That suggests the Genesis is looking to build itself a rival to the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and others.
Although the GV80 was only introduced in the US in 2021, it’s been on sale in Korea since 2020, which means it makes sense to upgrade the 2024 range. Though that also suggests US buyers will have to wait a while before to get your hands on the GV80 Coupe.
Same powertrains as the GV80
As an extension of the GV80, the new model is expected to share the same powertrains. In the US, the SUV is currently offered with either a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four engine or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, making 300 hp (224 kW/304 PS) and 375 hp (280 kW/380 PS), respectively.
The GV80 turned out to be Genesis’s second-best-selling vehicle in 2022, behind the more affordable GV70, and nearly outsold all of its sedans combined. So adding an option that could tempt more buyers to the brand may be a wise move.
