Larger than its predecessor, the Kona 2024 increases its wheelbase by 60 millimeters (2.3″) to 2660 mm (104.7″). Its overall length has been increased by 145mm (5.7″) to 4,350mm (171.2″), while its width is now 1,825mm (71.9″).
With 17″ tires, the subcompact crossover reaches a height of 1,580 mm (62.2″). These dimensions are for ICE and Hybrid models. The proportions of the EV they are very similar as you will be using the same platform.
In South Korea, Hyundai expects to market the new Kona with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine that makes 147 horsepower and 180 Newton-meters (132 pound-feet) of torque delivered to the wheels via a CVT. With the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine you’ll get 195 hp and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The hybrid uses a custom-built 1.6-liter unit that works in conjunction with an electric motor to deliver “impressive acceleration and high efficiency”. Combined power has been rated at 139 hp and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) sent to the road via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Load volume with the rear seats folded down is 723 liters (25.5 cu ft), while the shift-by-wire gear selector forms a larger front compartment with enough space to stow large bags.
