An officer on a motorcycle died after being struck by the branch of a palm when he was doing routine work on a busy highway in South Florida, authorities reported. This is Charles Herring and his death was confirmed by the Fraternal Order of Florida State Police and by the Pembroke Pines agency, in Broward County, northwest of Miami. Herring was in his vehicle heading south on 184th Avenue in Pembroke Pines when he was struck by a tree on the highway. This caused the officer to lose control and shoot out.
