We knew a new generation Toyota Tacoma was on the horizon and even had a pretty good idea of how it would look thanks to a design registration from Brazil. This rendering from the Tacoma 4G forum uses the sketch as a starting point for imagining what the rugged TRD Pro version might look like. At the front, the design features an octagonal grille and a bumper with integrated fog lights. This rendering adds an LED bar just below the Toyota emblem. 12 Photo On the side, this rendered truck has a raised suspension. It rides on black wheels with tires to do light off-roading. The TRD Pro logo is on the front door and bed. There are no significant changes at the rear. The image highlights the higher climb height which will increase the truck's approach, breakover and departure angles. For reference, the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro has suspension that is 1.5 inches higher at the front and 0.5 inches higher at the rear compared to lower grade trucks. The pickup has an approach angle of 36.4 degrees, penetration angle of 26.6 degrees and departure angle of 24.7 degrees. It also gets Fox internal bypass shocks, forged upper control arms, and 16-inch wheels with Goodyear all-terrain tires. The new Tacoma will allegedly be available with two engines. The entry-level engine is reported to use a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. That makes 265 horsepower (198 kilowatts) and 309 pound-feet (419 Newton-meters) in the current Highlander. Buyers will allegedly be able to get a hybrid version of the 2.4-liter turbo engine. It's already available in other vehicles from the automaker. The powerplant produces 366 hp (272 kW) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) in the Lexus RX 500h and 340 hp (253 kW) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) in the Toyota Crown. Recent spy shots gave us a peek inside Tacoma. It has an infotainment display in a box shape, and the gearshift is chunky too. Unfortunately, the angle of the photo doesn't allow us to see the instrument cluster. We expect the new Tacoma to arrive for the 2024 model year as the 2023 examples are still the current generation of trucks. We hope the opening will happen sometime this year.
