A total of 26 people were arrested during the police operation. In the investigation, 10 searches were found in homes where mobile phones, credit cards, various documents and several cars were seized.
The leaders of the organization formed a pyramidal system in whose database were those in charge who were looking for vulnerable people or people with few economic resources in search of refueling cards with a line of credit.
They applied for the loans posing as self-employed in exchange for money, which the authorities call “money mules”
Then they offered the fuel to drivers of heavy units at gas stations, paying for the refueled diesel with credit cards in the name of the false self-employed, until they received the blocking of the account.
Scams in Catalonia, Valencia and Tenerife
According to officials, the criminal organization obtained 97 credit cards from gas stations with more than 550 operations. With a scammed figure of 250,000 euros, almost all in service areas of Catalonia, the Valencian Community and Tenerife.
The 26 people arrested are charged with the crime of belonging to a criminal organization, fraud, identity theft and document falsification.
