The Suzuki Alto 800 was a cheap citycar in Chile, in fact, it was ranked as the cheapest, with an entry price of only $7,190,000 pesos for the year 2022; however, its legacy as the cheapest citycar in the country would have come to an end. Here we explain what happened to the Suzuki Alto?
First of all, it should be remembered that the Alto is a model that has been marketed in Chile for several years, being an ideal vehicle for passengers who want a cheap car that allows them to travel around the city to carry out their daily routine without many problems.
What happened to the Suzuki Alto in Chile?
The fact is that, a 2023 model year was not released of the Suzuki citycar, something that has led us to wonder why. And the most obvious response came with the announcement of a Suzuki Alto known as the K10 in India (discontinued in the Chilean market).
The Alto in India debuted on August 18, 2022, and came with various updates. This Alto is expected to arrive in various Latin American countries, including Chile, but unlike in India, where the K10 will be sold on par with the 800, the latter will no longer be available in the Chilean market. The most feasible hypothesis is that it came out to make way for the new model. However, there are not many details about it.
How is the new Suzuki Alto?
What is known is from new Alto 2023 in Indiathis citycar offers more space and greater comfort for all its occupants, with a length of 3,530 mm, a width of 1,490 mm, a height of 1,520 mm and a wheelbase of 2,380 mm, with a weight of 1,150 kilos.
Regarding the design, it replicates many elements already seen in the Celerio, such as the front with rounded shapes, wide rearward-sloping headlights and a grill with a hexagonal design. The Japanese brand will offer two different wheel designs, either steel or 14-inch alloy.
Mechanically, under the hood is the same engine that the S-Presso adopted: the 1.0-liter K10 four-cylinder unit with Dual VVT technology. This produces 66.6 hp of power at 5,500 rpm and a torque of 89 Nm at 3,500 rpm, associated with a five-speed manual transmission or an automated clutch AGS.

Suzuki Alto interior and safety
Its renewed design provides a contemporary look accompanied by spaces to provide comfort to its occupants, among which are comfortable compartments for cans and bottles of up to one liter, radio with CD, MP3 and AUX input, heating, internal opening of the fuel cap. There is also a modern design of the fan outlets that keep the air flowing at all times.
In addition, there are improvements in materiality and connectivity such as a 7″ screen with Apple Car Play Y Android Auto, air conditioning and electrical kit. In terms of security, the anti-theft immobilizer, double front airbag, ABS brakes, isofix anchors, rear sensors, child lock on rear doors, door protection system in the event of a crash and power steering stand out.
And the Chilean market?
As we mentioned, this new Alto is expected to arrive in the Chilean market, according to sources with a starting price of $8,290,000 pesos, however, there are still no versions of the vehicle that would arrive in the country, much less, the details regarding the date on which it would touch down on Chilean lands. For now, all of that is a mystery, so we will have to wait for future updates.
