2023 Infiniti Q50 Black Opal Edition Debuts With Color Shift Paint

The 2023 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 gets a new Black Opal Edition which covers the sports sedan in color changing paint. This model will be “extremely rare”, according to the brand. The special version will add $2,200 to the price of a rear- or all-wheel-drive Red Sport 400.

Motor1.com contacted Infiniti to find out exactly how many examples of the Black Opal Edition are coming to the United States.

This Black Opal Metallic Q50 paint can have a blue, green, or purple hue depending on the viewing angle or the way the light hits it. Infiniti also installed a trunk lip spoiler with an exposed carbon fiber finish. The badge and logo on the body are satin black.

Unfortunately, the photos don’t provide a good example of the colors this paint can show. However, in some images, you can see a green tint.

Inside, there are black leather seats with red stitching. The front seats have diamond-finished sections on the cushions.

Under the hood, there’s a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (475 Newton-meters) of torque. A seven-speed automatic is the only gearbox option, but buyers can choose whether power goes to the rear wheels or to both axles.

For 2023, Infiniti is making some minor changes to the Q50 range. Saddle Brown leather is now an option on the Luxe trim. The Sensory class is available with an illuminated grille badge, which was previously a Red Sport exclusive. All 2023 Infiniti products come with the brand’s Premium Car maintenance programme. This includes oil changes for up to three years, tire rotations, inspections and more.

The 2022 Q50 receives additional standard features such as leather upholstery with memory function in the driver’s seat, folding exterior mirrors and a Bose Performance Series premium audio system.

Infiniti is currently preparing to introduce EVs in the US. That and Nissan models will come from the Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Mississippi starting in 2025.
