Lamborghini Urus PHEV Peeked Potentially Hiding Porsche Engine

We have new evidence that Lamborghini is working on a plug-in hybrid version of the Urus. The electrified super-SUV was recently captured by our spy photographers in pre-production form parked next to a Porsche 911. In fact, there may be a stronger link between the new Urus PHEV and the brand from Stuttgart than you might expect but we haven’t heard any confirmation yet official.

Word is that the Urus PHEV will use a version of Porsche’s LK5 engine, which the sports car maker refers to as the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain used in the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. In the performance sedan, the factory makes 689 horsepower (513 kilowatts), but Lambo is believed to convert this to a higher output of around 820 hp (612 kW). We haven’t been able to confirm these outputs, but it seems very likely that the Urus PHEV will be more powerful than the Urus with a non-hybrid 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine developing 641 hp (479 kW).

While this is a healthy increase in strength, there’s no big hint outside of added toughness. That said, there are a few changes to the front fascia that remain hidden under the guise, including a differently styled front bumper with modified air openings. It’s the same thing at the rear where we see changes to the rear bumper. A new wheel design and possibly new color choices could also be on the agenda, but that’s not evident from this new spy shot.

The plug-in hybrid Urus will likely be positioned at the top of the SUV lineup, sitting above the Performante model. It will also be heavier than all of its other less powerful siblings, likely weighing in at well over the 4,843 pounds (2,197 kilograms) of the Urus S.

We hope to see this new electrified version of the Urus hit showrooms later this year. This is part of Lamborghini’s plans to electrify the entire range by 2024. Another notable debut in that department will come later in 2023 in the form of the Aventador’s replacement with a V12 hybrid engine.
