The brochures distributed to dealers before the official presentation of the facelifted Mazda2 2023 have appeared in Japan, and new exterior details, paint colors, trim levels, and more are revealed in the brochure.

Perhaps the most notable change from the current Mazda2 is the front grille section, as it now appears more prominent and the lower section appears to sport an X shape.

The brochure also reveals that Mazda is adding two new colors in options, with Airstream Blue Metallic and Aero Gray Metallic. In addition, the updated Mazda2 would also get two new trim levels, a Sport or Sport+, adding a sporty black grille with a red “Sport” badging. It also features 16-inch aluminum wheels, black seats with red accents, and a black roof.

Base models will attempt to remove most of the front grill. BD and Sunlit trims will replace most of the mesh with solid body-color panels that evoke the aesthetics of electrified models.

However, the mazda city car it will only be powered by ICE engines. The flyer shows that the model will be offered with one of two engine options: The 15 BD and 15 Sport powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine; while the XD BD and XD Sport+ will have a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

It’s unclear if the engines will be modified with this update, but the 1.5-litre petrol engine currently makes 74 hp (55 kW/75 PS) or 89 hp (66 kW/90 PS) depending on trim, and the diesel does its own with 104 hp (77 kW/105 PS).

According to the brochure, the name BD stands for “Blank Deck” and refers to a clean slate for owners to work on. It has two-tone wheel trims, and the interior features a decorative air conditioning grille bezel, instrument panel, and shifter bezel.

For its part, the Sunlit Citrus trim is the luxury trim, with a genuine leather steering wheel and shift knob, as well as “Grand Luxe” power seats that sport a gray finish with citrus accents.
