a new one is coming Chevrolet Equinoxa next-generation combustion-engined SUV for the 2025 model year, has been spied for the first time recently, giving us a preview of what’s to come.
It’s clear the fuel-burning model won’t simply be a copy of the Equinox EV that debuted in early 2022. The bodywork maintains the familiar Equinox cues with the general window shape and beltline, but beefier than before with square proportions. This is particularly noticeable in the D-pillar, where the side glass extends to the roof with a nearly vertical frame, much like the Equinox EV.

The front also draws your attention, where an upright face is barely visible through the camouflage. It shows a little more influence from the Equinox EV, especially with the slim daytime running lights on top. But unlike the EV, there’s a large grill to power a gasoline engine. The spotlights Headlights are easily seen on either side of the grille, and the rear marker taillights confirm that this test vehicle is far from production-ready.
Of course, Chevrolet is following recent trends for beefier, boxier SUV designs similar to the Honda Pilot and Subaru Forester, which debuted in the last 18 months. That leaves room for the sleeker Equinox EV to have its own space as a street-focused family vehicle.
As for the power, there is no information about it. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 175 hp is currently offered in all Equinox trim levels, turning the front wheels or all four. Though there’s always the possibility of new hybrid powertrains joining the lineup.
A fourth generation model
The Equinox is currently in its third generation, having launched in 2016. A mid-cycle refresh has debuted for the 2021 model year, and the 2023 models are already on the US manufacturer’s website. Considering this is the first sighting of a fourth-generation prototype, a reveal isn’t expected until later in 2023 or even 2024, likely arriving as a 2025 model.
