When we thought that the Ultimae would be the last Lamborghini to have a pure V12, Lamborghini proves us otherwise with the Invincible and Authentic duo. The former is a coupe while the latter is a roadster, two models that give buyers one last chance to pick up a 12-cylinder engine before the impending hybrid era. Both are based on the durable Aventador platform, which debuted 12 years ago with the original LP 700-4.

He Invincible and Authentic they are a mix of earlier models that feature styling cues derived from various V12 machines, including the Reventon. This was a limited run special edition based on the Murcielago, but with an exterior appearance that happened to be a preview of the Aventador.

According to the Italian manufacturer, the pair also resemble the Veneno, which was arguably the wilder derivative of the Aventador. Plus, if the hood design looks familiar, it’s because it’s borrowed from the Essenza SCV12, a track-only beast with the 6.5-liter unit tuned to 818 hp.

The unique cars employ the most powerful V12 configuration ever put into a road car by Lamborghini. As with the Ultimae, the mid-mounted naturally aspirated engine makes 769 hp and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque delivered to a system of all wheel drive via a seven-speed ISR gearbox. Performance details haven’t been revealed, but it’s looking for a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) run in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 220 mph (355 km/h) to match the Ultimae.

Two unique models

Lamborghini does not mention the price of the two cars. However, logic says that they should cost upwards of $500,000 starting price for an Ultimae. The LP 780-4 Ultimae was limited to 350 coupes and 250 convertibles, but like the Invincible and Autentica are uniqueSant’Agata Bolognese must have set quite a premium for that exclusivity.

This is truly the end of the line for the Aventador. Its highly anticipated replacement will come out in the first quarter of 2023 with an all-new V12 part of a PHEV system. This will kick off a hybrid revolution, as the Urus will get a PHEV and the Huracan’s replacement will also be partially electrified. Next, they will bring an EV in 2028, Rouven Mohr, but Lamborghini’s technical director told InsideEVs that it will not be a supercar as the technology is not yet ready for a high-performance application.
